Real Madrid: news and form

Since the resumption of La Liga, Real Madrid have certainly beaten Valladolid and Bilbao (2-0 each), while also being beaten by Real Sociedad (0-0) and even Villarreal (1-2). These two poor performances cost Madrid five valuable points in the title race. Those five points are the distance that separates Real from Barca in the standings, in fact, the blaugranas have enjoyed a clear round since their recovery (except for the draw with Espanyol).

The sad thing is that Real Madrid play well, dominate and create chances, but lack realism in both areas. Los Blancos managed to win only two points in the last 7 games. The attacking record for 2023 is not too encouraging either: Real scores one goal every 9.5 shots. By comparison, Barça are more efficient and need only 6.3 shots to score.

This lack of success also results in mixed results at slaughter. Having qualified for the Copa del Rey semi-finals against Barça, Real have had a rather chaotic run: 1-0 against fourth-division side Cacereno, 3-2 at Villarreal after losing 0-2 at half-time and 3-3 after the dismissal of Stefan Savic. then 1 in extra time against Atletico Madrid.

Les Merengues did not shine in the Spanish Super Cup either. Having only won on penalties against Valencia, they were helpless against Barca and lost 1-3 in a one-sided final. As usual, Real had a tough January, perhaps before the best approach to their favorite competition, the Champions League.

Valencia: relevance and form

With just one point since the resumption of La Liga, Valencia sees the red zone slowly approaching. Indeed, Gennaro Gattuso failed to re-motivate his troops after returning from the suspension and his men losing at Villarreal (1-2), Cadiz (0-1) and Valladolid (0-1). The score against Almeria (2-2) did not allow the Italian coach to keep his place on the bench of Murcielagos. In the interim, Salvatore ‘Voro’ Gonzalez will be busy.

“Valencia”, which is fourteenth with 20 points, is far from leaving the danger zone behind. In this very homogeneous championship, the fight will be intense until the last days and will worry ten teams. Today, only five points separate the nineteenth-placed “Getafe” and the eleventh-placed “Almeria”. Nine clubs are therefore directly interested in maintenance every weekend.

The Copa del Rey gave Valencia a momentary change of heart. Facing weaker opponents, Murcielagos were swept at La Nuecia (0-3, third division) and Gijon (0-4, second division) before losing to stronger ones: Valencia lost 1-3 to Bilbao in mid-week. and left the competition in the 1/4 final stage.

The trip to Saudi Arabia for the Spanish Super Cup was not successful either. Valencia still held Real Madrid in check (1-1), but eventually lost 4-2 on penalties.

Real Madrid have been downplayed on several outings this January. We also think that the change of head coach in “Valencia” will create an electric shock in the heads of the over-motivated players who will be able to score points in “Bernabeu”.

Both teams scored in 13 of the 18 games played by “Real” this season. We believe that Valencia, who also scored and conceded a lot (25-21), will suffer a lot of Madridistas and eventually crack, but also be able to shake the net.
