What place is there for art in the university scene? For the first university in the country to adopt an arts and culture policy in 2014, art is certainly not an invisible second fiddle. Recognizing its leading role in the development of the university community and society, UdeS presented its brand new Arts and Culture Strategy 2022-2027 on January 24 during an event accompanied by brilliant exchanges and artistic manifestations.

Music, performing arts, literature, visual arts, media, museology and heritage, film and audiovisual… the artistic and cultural expressions found at UdeS are more than meets the eye.
In particular, through training programs and research groups, cultural initiatives of various student groups, events, shows and exhibitions on its campuses, as well as works that take place there, the institution gives a privileged place in relations. between knowledge, art and culture. In addition to promoting artistic and cultural vitality, these interactions contribute to improving the quality of living, working and learning environments for the entire university community.

After revising the arts and culture policy in 2020, in which many initiatives have been launched, UdeS intends to position art and culture as distinct elements of the UdeS experience with its new Strategy.
To that end, it will seek to enrich the experience on its campuses by democratizing access to arts and culture. In this process, the university community located in the three campuses of UdeS will be able to benefit from the “signature” artwork in the open air. Excited about this major structural project that prides itself on art and culture, Professor Faucher explains:

The initiative also pleases the new director of the Cultural Center, Joanne Lamoureux, who took office last summer. In addition to the “Signature” work, each of the campuses will offer an indoor and outdoor art tour highlighting different art forms, which will be accompanied by an informational and educational component such as conferences and mediation activities.
The idea is to sensitize and awaken society to the beauty of art and culture by encouraging creative expression in various forms, approaches and perspectives.

He adds that as part of the Art and Culture Strategy, interdisciplinary works created by the university community by combining various art forms and disciplines will also be promoted. Finally, the collection of spaces on campuses dedicated to the implementation, dissemination and promotion of arts and cultural programs will form the living heart of the Strategy.
In short, there is no doubt that by working so beautifully to increase the vibrancy and influence of arts and culture across its campuses, UdeS is participating in the cultural development of its communities and will know that it will inspire them to contribute. in his own way to the beauty of the world.
