The endless hassle of Gardois, who was the victim of an accident and lost his car for 6 months due to a simple cable

Frédéric Rodríguez, who was the victim of an accident on July 31 on the highway in the direction of Narbonne (Aude), thought that his Mercedes was only superficially damaged. Six months later, he still hasn’t gotten his car back. To make matters worse, since then, neither the insurance nor the manufacturer has been able to give him a loaner car. The story of a kitchen in drag.

The accident seemed insignificant. On July 31, 2022, Frédéric Rodríguez returns to Nimes after a weekend at the Bayonne festivals. In the middle of the highway, Gardois rolls onto the axle lost by a Serbian truck.

The lights of his “Mercedes” immediately turn on. He says: “I stopped at the rest area of the motorway. I saw that I was far from the only victim of the accident. Several cars were literally on fire.” In total, about twenty drivers were injured.

“I have been declared unlucky!”

After the accident, Frédéric Rodriguez was quickly looked after by a repairman. “He told me: don’t worry, Vinci has all the contact information. We didn’t draw any conclusions, we thought there would be no problem.”

But the next day the galleries begin. Pacifica insurance cannot locate the coordinates of the Serbian truck responsible for the accident.

“I contacted Vinci again, and they told me that no contact information was provided except for a legal transaction,” says Frédéric Rodríguez. Because he couldn’t stand up to anyone, the insurance declared me a bad person.

When contacted, Pacifica told us there were “various attempts to collect elements related to the circumstances, particularly with the highways management company and the judicial authorities.”

“Unfortunately, no one was willing or able to provide us with information. The only items we had were the customer’s statement, a photo of the truck in question and a photo of another vehicle that was damaged.

After several months of research from the registrations of other vehicles involved in the accident provided by Frédéric Rodríguez that evening, Pacifica finally announced that it could “officially release the insured from liability in the event of an accident.”

His car is being taken to a body shop in Narbonne approved by his insurer. Frédéric Rodríguez then hopes to recover it quickly. “At first it looked very bad. But when they assembled the car, they found that a very important cable was damaged.”

Four months waiting for delivery

“Luckily, there was a Mercedes garage right next door, which is still going. When they saw the damage, they felt they had to order a new cable to replace it completely.”

A very rare transaction according to the manufacturer we contacted. “It’s a harness that powers the whole car electronically,” explains Mercedes France. “To replace it, you have to completely dismantle the car. Generally, you just cut out the damaged wires and fuses, which is much faster.”

The price of the piece produced on demand is 4122 euros. Ordered mid-September, can’t be delivered for four months. Frédéric Rodríguez feels helpless: “I realized that this cable is specific to the chassis number of my car and its options. It is almost a unique part.”

“The insurance company told me that they can only lend the car during the repair, not while waiting for the part.” Mercedes, whose car remains with the bodybuilder, claims that it cannot give him a car either.

“No one can do anything for me”

Nothing has changed since then. “It’s been four months, I’ve followed everyone and I still don’t know,” Gardois laments. Nobody can do anything for me.

“Meanwhile, my car is still in Narbonne, discounting and paying the insurance costs, it continues. Fortunately, with my relatives, I manage to buy me a vehicle. If I had to rent, the bill would be even higher.”

Mercedes France, which could not provide the name or origin of the subcontractor that provided the long-awaited trailer, said after our call that it had restarted it. “We’ve asked for file prioritization, which should speed things up,” he noted, unable to be more specific on the delivery time to the manufacturer.
