Samsung Display has introduced a 360° bendable smartphone screen hinge

Samsung firmly believes in the foldable smartphone and intends to remain the innovation leader in this regard. Although more models of this type have been announced for this year, South Korea (via its subsidiary Samsung Display) recently introduced the most ambitious panel.

This screen, called Flex In & Out, can bend 360 degrees, while most models are content with 180 degrees. Therefore, it can come close to itself as the Huawei Mate X. It gains versatility every day.

The website The Verge was able to get their hands on and shared pictures of the plate in question.

To develop the system, instead of the currently used “U-shaped”, it was necessary to develop a new hinge in the form of a water drop. A system that reduces the crease mark and should be democratized in the coming years. This rotation has an advantage: it does not require the integration of a second screen for indoor use.

It is also possible that the next Galaxy Z Fold 5 will receive it. Competitors like Oppo and Motorola have also looked into the issue. But Samsung Displays can easily reserve this innovation for foreign customers as well.

Samsung is stepping up its efforts

This isn’t the first time Samsung Displays has explored different formats. In 2021, the firm filed various patents detailing a tri-foldable display. An interesting idea, because we were approaching the tablet format after it was opened. Closed kept the aspect ratio of the smartphone at 20:9 or 21:9.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 are slated to launch in August, and we can’t wait to see what’s new about these new models. Admittedly, previous iterations were quite stingy with changes.
