“The game against Manchester City was crazy”

To honor the systematic presence of many Monegasque supporters in the away stands, asmonaco.com continues its series dedicated to supporters of the Red and Whites. For this 8th part of the 2022-2023 season, let’s meet Jonathan, a pure Breton but an AS Monaco fan.

At the age of 35, Jonathan Neybecker, director of a real estate agency in Lorient, has already been loyal to AS Monaco for more than 25 years. Meet this unconditional fan of David Trezeguet.

Hi Jonathan, How and where did you get this passion for the Club?

In the beginning, I fell in love with football with David Trezeguet before I fell in love with the Club! But one thing led to another as I fell in love with AS Monaco, the original kit may have played a part as well. So I’ve been a fan since I was ten years old. And it’s been going for 25 years!

I think Bernardo is a player that is stuck in the minds of many fans. He left a great memory.

Isn’t it difficult to support a club other than one in your area?

My father is a supporter of Olympique Marseille, so even if it would be more convenient to go to the stadium, given the distance, I never asked myself (laughs)! Unfortunately, I have only been to Stade Louis-II once in my life. But you can chat with other supporters with networks, and AS Monaco is a club known for its many away fans. Lorient, I’m happy when they win, they only have two games to lose in the season, the game against AS Monaco (laughs).

The only time I came to Stade Louis-II was in 2017 for the second leg against Manchester City. I was lucky to be there, it was crazy. I have the impression that nothing can happen to us.

What are your first memories with AS Monaco?

Especially in the era of David Trezeguen, as I explained above. I like watching old games, like the Champions League quarter-final against Manchester United. My first really great memory is the 2000 title. What amazed me then was Jean-Louis Campora’s celebration in the pool and all the players dyeing their hair red. I was 13 years old, but what a memory!

Who are your favorite players yesterday and today?

Then I would say especially Marcelo Gallardo, Ludovic Giuly and Marco Simone. But if I had to pick just one, it would be David Trezeguet. For me he was a player.

Fabinho and Bernardo Silva caught my attention recently. Plus, they seem very friendly off the pitch. I think Bernardo is a player that is stuck in the minds of many fans. He left a great memory.

Have you ever traveled?

Of course! Rennes, Nantes, Lorient, Laval, Lorient, Angers… all over the Great West. I was also in the 2017-2018 Coupe de la Liga final against Paris Saint-Germain at Matmut Atlantique in Bordeaux. Usually I’m in the visitors’ stand, but when I’m not there my little guilty pleasure is standing alone when Monaco score!

Have you ever been to Stade Louis-II?

The only time I came to Stade Louis-II was in 2017 for the second leg against Manchester City. I was lucky to be there, it was crazy. I have the impression that nothing can happen to us.

On arrival from Lorient, a trip to Monaco is arranged. This meeting with “Manchester City” remains an incredible memory. I will try to come back and why not next season?

Will he tell an anecdote around the club?

Yes. I collect AS Monaco cards! Cards, jerseys, balls with different players. I have between 200 and 300. I talk regularly with another colleague who is a florist in Monaco, we have a good community. I built my collection based on the Club. By the way, don’t hesitate to check out @asmonac_hobby .

And finally, a pPrediction against Lorient?

Monegasque victory, 2-1! It would be a very good result. At the beginning of 2023, Lorient was not exceptional, so there is room, we must be serious and it will do.
