CES 2023 was an opportunity for Lenovo to showcase a new generation of laptops. Along with the Thinkbook Plus Twist and its rear e-Ink display, the Chinese brand has unveiled the 16-inch Gen 4 ThinkBook, which it describes as the most powerful ThinkBook ever.

For this, the manufacturer equipped it with the 13th generation Intel Core chip, H series, and the 45 W heat envelope places it as the most successful behind the HX series. As an additional option, it is possible to add the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 graphics card, which was introduced during the same CES.

Two screen options

Lenovo wants to leave the choice to you regarding the specifications of the IPS screen on offer: the main screen chooses a refresh rate of 60 Hz, 2.5 K definition. The other panel goes even further with a frequency and definition of 165 Hz. 3.2K. Dolby Vision is supported in both cases.

The options continue on the side of storage capacity: in addition to the first one, a second 1 TB SSD can be installed to reach 2 TB. There are also four Harman Kardon speakers, two microphones, an 80 Wh battery, 32 GB DDR5 RAM, 2 USB-A ports, 2 USB- C port, 1 HDMI port, SD card slot and jack slot.

In Moto Mods mode

On the connectivity side, there is talk of Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.1 coupled with an FHD camera. But the small addition of this 16-inch Gen 4 ThinkBook is mainly at the level of the integrated magnetic support at the top center of the screen. The idea: to be able to add different branded accessories.

This innovation is a clear nod to the Moto Mods of the 2010s, those accessories (pico projector, optical zoom, speaker, 360 camera) attached to a Motorola phone. Knowing that Motorola was acquired by Lenovo in 2014, one can be sure that this acquisition inspired the Asian firm.

Accessories offered by Lenovo are available as an option closure. The first of these is nothing but a webcam called Lenovo Magic Bay 4K Webcam. Using Lenovo View software, this camera can work simultaneously with the built-in camera laptop.

The system can then combine the two video streams to provide, for example, automatic face tracking. For the rest, this webcam is mainly designed for professional video conferencing and streaming. It brings with it autofocus, auto framing and field of view adjustment.

The Lenovo Magic Bay 4K Webcam benefits from a very good definition: 4K at 30 FPS. In addition, the hinge allows you to rotate it up to 270° to suit your needs and placement in the room. Finally, if you don’t want to be filmed, the electronic shutter guarantees a minimum of privacy.

You certainly know light rings for selfies: now discover the Lenovo Magic Bay Light. The idea is the same, for example, to bring a nice dose of brightness to the ganache during a video call. This accessory goes up to 200 lux, which can be controlled according to the required intensity level. Finally, be aware that the camera opens automatically when you turn it on.

Better mobile connectivity

Finally, Lenovo wants to bring a new mobile connectivity solution with Lenovo Magic Bay LTE that offers 4G LTE connectivity. It also has an LED indicator that shows the connection status and a USB Type-C port with a cable for connecting to other laptops.
