Every year, the smartphone release schedule is set like clockwork marked by market leaders. Among them is Apple and its iPhones, which celebrate the technology world every year at the end of summer. 2023 should not be an exception, and we are already waiting for the arrival of the iPhone 15, 15 Pro and 15 Ultra generations. Release date, design, spec sheet, price… we weigh in on rumors, leaks and speculation about Apple’s next smartphones.

iPhone 15 Ultra instead of iPhone 15 Pro Max?

In 2022, Apple changed its lineup by releasing its variant ” mini To offer iPhone 14 Plus. Although we think this nomenclature will continue, in fact, 2023 seems to be amazing in iPhone names as well. This time it is the iPhone 15 Pro Max that needs to be renamed and changed.

This is how the famous analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reminds us The iPhone 15 Pro Max can actually be called the iPhone 15 Ultra. By doing this, Apple would mark a clear difference in its offering range is an ultra premium modelLike the Apple Watch Ultra.

While the name is a first for iPhone, the strategy itself won’t be new. We saw the difference between the iPhone 13 generation and the Pro and Pro Max. The latter had a better photo module than the smaller version (telephoto lens with more magnification, stabilization on the wide-angle sensor and ultra-wide-angle optical stabilization). Therefore, the improvement of this material will be more noticeable this year and possibly justify the higher price.

So, the 2023 iPhone lineup should be as follows:

  • iPhone 15
  • iPhone 15 Plus
  • iPhone 15 Pro
  • iPhone 15 Ultra

At the moment, there is nothing to suggest that the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will be technically different apart from the screen size and battery.

Goodbye Lightning, hello USB-C

Europe is now implementing universal connectivity to limit accessory updates when changing devices, especially smartphones. So Apple will have to follow this decision on the old continent and abandon Lightning to adopt USB-C. And the first device from the brand to make this transition will obviously be the iPhone 15. Apple has already confirmed (and expressed displeasure in passing) that the iPhone 15 will have a USB-C port.

Even if it meant switching to USB-C, Apple wouldn’t do things by halves. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus shouldn’t see a real evolution since they’ll be USB 2.0, but the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Ultra will offer USB 3.2 (20 Gb/s) or even USB 3.2-equivalent speeds. Thunderbolt 3 (40 Gb/s).

And since the Lightning’s marketing is a significant boon for Apple, it only makes sense that this is just one step. Apple has already planned to go beyond the standard by offering 100% wireless smartphones in the future. It will then charge wirelessly using both induction charging and Apple’s MagSafe technology.

Buttonless design

In order to move towards the smallest smooth design, Apple will have to remove not only the ports, but also the buttons. It’s already started with the removal of Touch ID (which isn’t coming back anytime soon), and the iPhone 15s is expected to go even further by removing traditional buttons.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (still he) thinks the iPhone 15 (or at least ONE iPhone 15) will lack physical buttons. They will be replaced by touch zones and haptic feedback. Subcontractor Cirrus Logic would also signal to its investors a sharp increase in activity for the second half of 2023. This could be linked to an iPhone with no buttons… or just a prediction based on Ming-Chi Kuo’s predictions.

Goodbye notch, hello Dynamic Island on iPhone 15

iPhone 14 Pro introduced a new design. The notch, which has been around since the iPhone X, has given way to the Dynamic Island.pill“Grouping the front camera and sensors needed for Face ID. Apple, however, has turned this limitation into a real asset by cleverly adding a software layer. This innovation, reserved for the “Pro” series this year, should also fall on the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus in 2023.

Older rumors also suggest that the sensors needed for Face ID could be hidden under the display in 2023. It’s not clear yet, but it would “be a nice addition to justify his qualification.”Ultrain one of these four smartphones.

iPhone 15, 15 Pro and 15 Ultra specifications

We still don’t know the iPhone 15’s spec sheet in detail, but some points have been suggested by certain sources.Nikkei Asiafor example, confirming that Apple will continue the division seen at the SoC level of the iPhone 14.

Thus, the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Ultra will benefit from the new A17 Bionic chip, engraved at 3 nm according to TSMC’s second-generation process, while the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will work thanks to the A16.

Likewise, RAM will go up to 8GB on the two most expensive models, versus just 6GB for the other two models.

Improved photo zoom

Finally, if we don’t yet know the exact photo configuration of the iPhone 15, the Ultra model could equip it with a periscopic telephoto lens that allows x10 zoom, according to Ming-Chi Kuo.

iPhone 15, 15 Pro and 15 Ultra prices

There is no information about the price of iPhone 15 yet. However, we can easily make some predictions based on Apple’s habits.

We can already say that the iPhone 15 will not be cheaper than the iPhone 14, and therefore the first price will be at least 1019 euros for the iPhone 15 and 1329 euros for the iPhone 15 Pro. Plus, given the state of the economy, it wouldn’t be surprising if prices continued to rise with the next-generation iPhone.

The differences in ranges can also be more noticeable in terms of prices. Arrival of the modelUltraIt could encourage Apple to add a few tens or even a few hundred euros to the price of the device.

What is the release date of iPhone 15, 15 Pro and 15 Ultra?

Apple’s schedule is set like clockwork. Unless something breaks this rhythm, the iPhone is always released in September, usually on a Tuesday.

Therefore, we can expect the announcement of iPhone 15 on September 12 or 19, or at least on those days. However, logistical constraints can make things happen until the last minute.
