iPhone 14: release date, price, news… here’s what we know
The new iPhone 14 series should introduce many new features this year. Apple should lift the lid on its smartphones this Wednesday, September 7, during its traditional back-to-school launch. However, a few guesses already allow us to see what awaits the fans of the brand.
Between expected aesthetic changes, big news on the photography side, and increased prices, the iPhone 14 and 14 Pro have been causing a lot of ink to flow in recent days as we approach Apple’s September 7th keynote. . CNEWS takes into account all the assumptions put forward by experts of the apple brand. As always, the latter neither confirmed nor denied the following information.
When will they be available?
The official date has not yet been announced by Apple. However, the iPhone 14 launch should take place on Wednesday, September 7 at 19:00 (France time) on Apple’s website, as well as on the company’s official YouTube channel.
Based on Apple’s launch habits, its products are usually marketed a few days later. Most American media agree to push the availability date for Friday, September 16. However, it’s possible that the date may apply to the iPhone 14 family, but not as a whole.
At what price will they be sold?
Again, nothing leaked at Apple. However, America’s Bloomberg understands that it will face a price hike this year. The price increase mainly applies to the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models. Thus, compared to the 2021 releases of the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max, it will be necessary to calculate an additional 100 euros for these models.
So, Dan Ives, a financial expert of the American Wedbush firm, and Ming-Chi Kuo, an Apple expert, predict an increase of 100 dollars, which can be reflected in the monetary equivalent of 100 euros in Europe.
Inflation and shortages of electronic components will be partly responsible, but it will be the addition of significant new features, especially in terms of photos and displays, that will increase the bill significantly.
So, if the iPhone 13 Pro Max was priced at €1,159, the iPhone 14 Pro Max could be priced at €1,259, explains analyst Dan Ives.
The prices of the iPhone 14 will remain the same, i.e. around 910 euros for the starting price.
What models will be offered?
As for the range offered around the iPhone 14 family, this 2022 vintage will skip the mini model. The iPhone 12 mini would have been a commercial failure, and the 13 mini model would not have been released. Apple will still focus on four devices: the normal iPhone 14, the iPhone 14 “Max”, the slightly larger and therefore new in this range, the iPhone 14 Pro and finally the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Towards a new level?
According to the rumors put forward by the specialized website 9to5mac, the iPhone 14 Pro will be affected by the expected aesthetic evolution: the end of the famous notch introduced since the iPhone X launched in 2017 (already!). Apple would opt for a display where the selfie camera and Face ID would be integrated into one or two punches. A technology widely used by the competition for four years now. However, the classic notch will remain a signature of the 14 and 14 Max models.
In addition, the 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max models will also benefit from a titanium shell, which is lighter than the steel used so far. Finally, in terms of design, Apple can still offer iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models that are slightly thicker and heavier, but also slightly less wide.
New on the photo side?
The appearance of the photo blocks of the iPhone 14 and 14 Pro models should not change. However, as every year, the onboard technology will be revised. Thus, the 14 Pro models will inherit a large 48 Mpixel sensor for the first time against the previous 16 Mpixel. If this point doesn’t matter much – except for large format prints – it’s mainly the size of the sensor that should make a difference for better quality photos. Notably, the ultra-wide-angle sensor could also benefit from a major upgrade to allow it to compete with the main lens.
Finally, it is necessary to rely on the new A16 Bionic chip, one of the most powerful on the market, but also to support the display of photos, especially thanks to image processing.
