2023 GMC Cars: Overview and Changes

The GMC brand is working hard to introduce more and more upscale variants of its pickups, SUVs and crossovers in an effort to attract more affluent customers and increase its profitability. At the same time, it was the first of GM’s four main brands to launch a new generation electric vehicle. And quite a one, because we’re talking about an ultra-powerful supervan.

Plus, at least one more electric pickup is on the way, and its utility portfolio is undergoing a number of minor changes. What to expect from the GMC brand in 2023.

ELECTRIC MACHINES

GMC Hummer EV pickup truck

The GMC Hummer EV pickup is finally coming to Canada, first in EV variants3X and Edition 1. They are powered by three electric motors for 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft (or about 1,200 lb-ft) of torque at the wheels. The EV2 and EV2X versions will follow with two sets of 625bhp motors and a smaller battery. As for the Hummer EV SUV, it will arrive in 2023 as a 2024 model.

The GMC Sierra EV pickup truck was introduced in October 2022 and will go on sale in early 2024 as a 2024 model, initially available as the Denali Edition 1 with 754 horsepower and 785 pound-feet of torque. It will be assembled at GM’s Factory Zero plant in Michigan, along with the Chevrolet Silverado EV and Hummer EV.

HYBRID AND PLUG-IN HYBRID OPTIONS

The GMC brand currently does not offer any models equipped with a hybrid engine, with GM preferring to focus research and development investments on a 100% electric architecture.

In fact, the last GMC with a hybrid engine was the 2008-2013 Yukon. It combined a 6.0-liter V8 engine with two electric motors to produce 332 horsepower and reduce fuel consumption from 13.9 to 11.0 L/100 km. compared to the base 5.3-liter V8.

OTHER MODELS

GMC Acadia

An extensive redesign is planned soon, so the GMC Acadia receives only minor changes for 2023, including a revised body color. The midsize crossover offers two engine choices, including a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, as well as a 3.6-liter V-6 with 310 horsepower and 271 lb-ft. All-wheel drive is standard in Canada. We can expect a bigger Acadia for the 2024 vintage.

The new generation of GMC Canyon is available in 2023 in Elevation, AT4, new AT4X and Denali versions. The very old GMC Savana drops its 2.8-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel, and that’s the only major change for 2023. The commercial van is still available with a 4.3-liter V6 (276 hp) and a 6.6-liter V8 (401 hp). , as well as in utility, travel and cut configurations.

GMC Sierra 1500

The most popular model of the brand is, of course, the GMC Sierra 1500. A new turbodiesel codenamed LZ0 is introduced, replacing the new 3.0-litre six-cylinder LM2 3.0-litre six-cylinder. The Sierra 1500 Limited has been discontinued.

GMC Sierra HD

The GMC Sierra HD changes body color and is due for 2023. The Sierra 2500 HD and 3500 HD are available in Regular Cab, SuperCab and Crew Cab configurations, and under the hood we find a 401-horsepower 6.6-liter V8. and a 6.6-liter turbodiesel V8 with 464 lb-ft of torque, or 445 hp and 910 lb-ft. The 2024 Sierra HD was recently introduced, benefiting from a mid-generation refresh, the introduction of the AT4X and Denali Ultimate trim levels, a revised interior, increased towing capacity, and versions of the turbodiesel engine that now produce 470 horsepower and 975 lb-ft.

GMC Terrain

The 2023 GMC Terrain gets a new iteration of its 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder following the compact crossover’s mid-generation refresh last year. The Terrain benefits from a five-horsepower increase over the outgoing 1.5-liter turbo unit, but fuel economy figures remain virtually unchanged. The Terrain is equipped with a new power braking system and body color change.

GMC Yukon

The regular-wheelbase GMC Yukon, as well as the extended Yukon XL, are available with one of three powertrains, including a 5.3-liter V8 (355 hp), a 6.2-liter V8 (420 hp), and a 3.0-liter turbodiesel. -six (277 hp, 460 lb-ft). 2023 brings a revision of vintage body colors and alloy wheels, while the Denali Ultimate package becomes a full-fledged version.
