our review of the electric Kangoo for professionals

The new 100% electric version of the Kangoo, called E-Tech, will quickly make people forget the old Kangoo ZE, thanks to its clearly improved performance and driving pleasure.

The 100% electric version of the Kangoo was introduced as soon as this new model was introduced more than a year ago. It will be necessary to wait all this time for its effective marketing. This version ditches the previous model’s ZE moniker (for Zero Emission) and adopts the E-Tech signature. Externally, the electric Renault Kangoo Van E-Tech differs from other versions of the Renault van with a grille with fewer holes to improve aerodynamics. (the electric motor doesn’t need as much cooling as its thermal cousins) and with no tailpipe. The charging port is located on the front, in the center of the grille, behind the large logo. This at least has the advantage of making communication easier and does not require you to respect one side and not the other when approaching the terminal. The opening of the filling hatch is controlled by a button on the dashboard.

New more powerful batteries

Electric Renault Kangoo Van E-Tech receives new batteries with a total capacity of 45 kWh. Thus, they allow you to travel up to 290 km (according to the WLTP standard). In use, the electric Renault Kangoo Van E-Tech can thus travel more than 200 kilometers on a charge, which expands the range of professions and occupations compatible with the Renault electric van. Batteries are conventionally installed on the ground. Thus, the useful volume is preserved; 3.3 m3 in the standard version, 3.9 m3 by choosing the currently popular modular partition system with the right-hand side without a middle column and folding “Open Sesame” passenger seat. The long-announced L2 long version is not yet available, but should be coming soon. The payload is equal to that of the thermal models (600 kilos on the standard Kangoo L1 and 800 kilos on the L2 extended version).

Several chargers are available

One of the major drawbacks of the previous Kangoo ZE was its charging time. Things have gotten a lot better with the electric Renault Kangoo Van E-Tech, which has an 11kW three-phase charger as standard and can optionally have a higher-power charger. (22 kW AC and especially 80 kV DC). An 80 kW charger can restore a range of 170 km in just 30 minutes. Get from 15% to 100% battery in 4 hours on the 11 kW Wallbox, and up to about 7 hours on the 7.4 kW Wallbox. To preserve a little more autonomy, a heat pump can be installed on the Renault Kangoo E-Tech equipped with a 22 kW charger, which allows you to use the air conditioner without using electricity from the traction battery. So much for autonomy.

The interior of the E-Tech version is identical to the Kangoos except for the dashboard (which houses the battery charge level). Passengers therefore benefit from a very pleasant environment, even if hard plastic dominates. Like all Renault Kangoos, the E-Tech version incorporates multiple storage spaces that make everyday life easier for professionals. Special mention should be made of the lidded glove box located at the top of the instrument panel, which allows you to charge electronic devices out of sight thanks to the integrated USB and 12V sockets.. As for the reversible smartphone holder (right-left), it is simply unrivaled in the market.

It is homogeneous to drive

The suspension of the electric Renault Kangoo Van E-Tech is slightly firmer than the thermal versions due to the weight of the batteries that have to be absorbed. However, as with the course, comfort remains at a very good level.. Operating silence is very high. Acceleration is very pleasant and the top speed of 135 km/h is easily reached and maintained. Be careful when monitoring the battery level, which tends to decrease rapidly at these high speeds. As for the energy recovery system (with three power levels controlled via the gear lever), its intricacies are impressive once mastered. The electric Renault Kangoo E-Tech is available in Grand Confort trim with prices starting at €33,600 ex-tax, €34,600 ex-tax..
