While the Warriors are still looking for success on the sidelines, on the other side of the US, the Hawks are coming off their most complicated road win as they cruised to a 121-106 win in Milwaukee. This is the first time the Bucks have lost at home, and the setback allows the Celtics to join them in first place in the Eastern Conference. Note that three owners are missing: Khris Middleton, Pat Connaughton and Jrue Holiday.
But the Falcons were serious from start to finish and took control from the start with defensive stops that turned into easy baskets. After four minutes, Atlanta trailed (15-7) and Mike Budenholzer took his first timeout. The Bucks respond thanks to the “second unit”, but Atlanta owns the theme with easy baskets and, of course, brilliant shots from Trae Young.
In fact, the Bucks only kept in touch thanks to free throws: 8-for-24 at halftime! But the Hawks are more capable and the Collins-Young duo makes it 9-2 to widen the gap again. “Atlanta” led by 13 points at halftime (63-50).
In the 3rd quarter, the Falcons complete the basketball with DeAndre Hunter and Clint Capela or send Young Collins to the alley. The difference between them continues to reach 18 points (76-58). The Bucks attempt “runs away”, but Murray is responsible for blocking the comeback attempt. The gap yo-yos, but midway through the final quarter, Atlanta regains an 18-point lead (103-85) for an easy win (121-106).
WHAT TO REMEMBER
– Warning for Giannis. Jrue Holiday, in civilian clothes, puts his hands to his face. There are no more voices in the Fiserv Forum. Giannis Antetokounmpo is on the ground holding his ankle. In an innocuous move, he stepped on Jalen Johnson’s leg. He fears injury more than staying in the game. But keep in mind that the “Greek Freak” missed three matches due to knee pain…
– Hawks collective. In addition to the anti-Giannis plan of giving him a wall of Collins-Capela-Hunter in the “front line,” Atlanta relied on his passing game to make a difference. Both Trae Young and Dejounte Murray have to play off the others first, and we’ve seen plenty of shot fakes, followed by dribbles to create space, sustain defenses and serve to an unmarked player.
✅ Dejounte Murray. He set the tone for the game by holding the opposing leader very high. His aggressiveness disrupted the Bucks’ offense, getting away from the racket. Complete game for him, more focus on offense as the Bucks try to mount an uprising.
✅ Clint Capela. He is the boss of the racket, like rival Brook Lopez. He just plays in attack and becomes a control tower in defense. The Swiss brings a real base to round out the spine with Murray and Hunter.
✅ Marjon Beauchamp. He gains confidence in meetings and hardly spoils anything. When the wounded come back, there is a 7th or 8th man to hold.
⛔️ Giannis Antetokounmpo. Rusty, who spent part of the week in the infirmary, Giannis was off pace and is still struggling against the Hawks. The result, 8 out of 21 shots, 8 loose ends and even 6 fouls!
Milwaukee (10-3) : Taking on the Cavaliers on Tuesday.
