Excluded Sales OM – Ex-negotiator on file says ‘We shouldn’t wait too long’ (ITV Video)

Former deal negotiator Fabrice gives us an exclusive interview about the potential sale of Olympique de Marseille.

We negotiated with “Fabris” for months so that he would give us an interview regarding the sale of OM. He has been a complete player in negotiations for a long time. If he does not want to divulge the exact information about the identity of the future buyers of Olympique de Marseille, he gives us his point of view, full of explanations that will highlight certain questions that this file leaves unresolved. Necessary and interesting mise en abyme.

News365: Introduce yourself in a few words

“Fabris”: I’m French, I’m forty years old, call me Fabris. I attended Harvard Business School and then joined reputed firms like Deloitte, Kearney, KPMG. Today, I am a partner in a foundation in the United States.

No club in France has been bought for more than 100 million euros.

News365: Why are you speaking today?

“Fabrice”: Well… the first reason is that this OM Sales story has been going on and I’ve been contacted by multiple insiders every day because I’ve had some visibility on this file for some time. I absolutely do not have time to answer, and until today, especially, I could not!

The second thing that makes me respond to you is that we are nearing the end of the process. OM should change hands soon, but be warned, I won’t be naming any names during this interview.

News365: What changed today?

“Fabris”: It’s simple, Frank McCourt loose ballast. By now he was playing the clock, struggling to negotiate the sums he hoped for. But today he is in a hurry from all sides. Whether it’s Marseille city hall, French football authorities or the highest political figures of the state, we know that the president loves football and loves OM, potential buyers, intermediaries, banks and most importantly the pressure of his fans.

He himself tried to temporarily remove the pressures received in France by using important political networks in the United States. This, by the way, helped him a lot in negotiations.

But we can already see that we are nearing the end of the process with the arrival of OM, the future sponsor of the CMA CGM club, which I think is always part of the round table of potential buyers.

McCourt has always allowed the operational parts of the club to operate with a lot of slack.
McCourt has always allowed the operational parts of the club to operate with a lot of slack.

News365: Exactly… What are the amounts expected by McCourt to formalize the sale of the club?

“Fabris”: Having worked closely with him, I can already say a few things about Frank McCourt. The first is that he has always allowed the operational parts of the club to operate with a lot of leeway.

When he bought the club, he already knew he would sell it after a few years and everything was in place for that. He is a very smart and strategic businessman. His only problem is that the club is in France. In France, no club was bought for more than 100 million euros. We are far from the sales level of “Chelsea”.

Frank has a lot of ambitions and in recent months we have heard demands of close to a billion euros. It assumes that future buyers of the club will buy the Velodrome. So he is putting the stadium up for sale, even though he only has a contract to manage the stadium. We’ll see if buyers are willing to give him what he wants.

He wrings his hands when he sees that #VenteOM or #RonaldOM are top tweeters and doesn’t hesitate to let potential buyers know.

News365: Over the past two years, we’ve heard a lot about the OM sale. What really happened?

“Fabris”: I cannot go over everything that was said and written, but I can say that there are very few that are close to the truth. There have been many rumors fueled by OM supporters’ desire to see ambitious and wealthy owners take over the club, a certainty as we have seen in recent months.

What’s happening around the club is crazy. Twitter troll accounts, insiders, fake news from all over. Other than that, I think it worked in McCourt’s favor in the negotiations. He wrings his hands when he sees #VenteOM or #RonaldOM in the world’s top tweets, and he doesn’t hesitate to let potential buyers know, demonstrating the potential of Marseille enthusiasm.

So I think OM is one of the 3/4 biggest clubs in the world in terms of passion and media influence. This sale went all over the world, Brazil, France, of course the whole Middle East, Great Britain, Spain, everyone is talking about it… there are articles on the topic in almost every language. What’s happening around VenteOM is amazing. This inevitably attracted many potential investors.

The question is, did we force these two journalists to spread the news to change the debate?

News365: How did you feel about the sale announcement of two journalists on February 5, 2021?

“Fabrice”: Very good question… If they had reported on the same day with the same information, in great detail, I would say that I was very surprised by the quality of their information. Apparently, Channel journalist Matthias Manteghetti and Thibaud Vezirian did not know each other before talking about this, but they had very good information.

I think all of France saw Canal Plus announcing a special program for that very evening. Finally, the issue that did not happen! Why? What are the reasons… history can tell. As far as I am concerned, the negotiations have not been concluded. So, we were not far from getting there at that time.

The question is, did we force these two journalists to spread the news to change the debate?

News365: Who could push them?

“Fabris”: He could have come from anywhere, from any camp. From McCourt or buyers. It could even come from Qatar. Remember the diplomatic position of Qatar at that time. Under blockade. But I have no evidence to present and I don’t know where it came from. But such things happen every day in the business or diplomatic world. All this, of course, is done in a roundabout way.

The sales of this club are unlike those practiced elsewhere. This is usually Marseille. He can get close to what happened at Newcastle

News365: Why hasn’t the club formalized its sale yet?

“Fabris”: Simply because of the political coincidence. From USA, France, Middle East, Qatar. This is a more complex file. When he took two steps forward, the file then moved back 3 steps, and so on. Nevertheless, there was extremely strong diplomatic pressure, sometimes even at McCourt’s insistence, that we should not lie to ourselves!

Except for the OM Sale – Frank McCourt has a new offer on the table

On February 5th, I can assure you that heads rolled everywhere. And it had many, many, many immediate consequences. It’s a situation that’s always on a rollercoaster ride. The sales of this club are unlike those practiced elsewhere. This is usually Marseille. It could be close to what happened in Newcastle.

News365: You are talking about Newcastle, are the future buyers Saudi?

“Fabris”: As I told you and I repeat, I will not communicate on the subject, it is impossible, and you will understand my decision.

For me, McCourt and his advisers have already made their choice

News365: We interviewed a captain of industry whose takeover bid was rejected by McCourt. He told us that the club has at least 4 serious and concrete offers…

“Fabris”: I can tell you that Frank McCourt has received dozens of buyout offers since 2018. There were good people at the Groupama Stadium in Lyon, in the Europa League final, and we’ve seen some of them on TV elsewhere, believe me.

Frank McCourt posed with Atletico leaders and JM Aulas during the Europa League final, but there were also potential buyers at the Groupama Stadium that evening.
Frank McCourt posed with Atletico leaders and JM Aulas during the Europa League final, but there were also potential buyers at the Groupama Stadium that evening.

And so far, McCourt has 4 or 5 big deals under his belt. OM is obviously a club that attracts many with the passion that the club exudes, the city, the center of Europe, the geography, the history, so it seems very clear to me that it has a lot to offer in the world. hands. But to me, McCourt and his advisers have already made their choice, and I think they should make it known soon. And that brings me back to CMA CGM, which is a clear indication of the direction it will take.

Excluded Sale OM – “McCourt Willing to Sell” confirms potential buyer rejected by American

News365: What do you think the schedule is?

“Fabrice”: It will first of all depend on the will of the buyers. All the planets are aligned today… political green light, agreement in principle on contracts, World Cup in sight. We shouldn’t wait too long… normally.

There is much to be said for Mr Macron’s agreement – or not – on the identity of OM’s future owner(s).

Khabar365: You often return to political aspects. Can you tell us why?

“Fabris”: Football has taken an important dimension in the field of media. An important “asset” for the image of countries. If countries like Qatar are investing in soft power, why shouldn’t France be involved in the decision to sell a prestigious club like OM? Moreover, speaking of the rival, we know that the then presidency was involved in the sale of PSG to Qatar. This is why there is so much for Mr. Macron to agree to the identity of the future owner(s) of OM.

The development of the football sector in France is at stake, as well as France’s influence around the world.
