Matter devices can now connect to SmartThings, making connected life easier than ever

Samsung announced the availability1 Item functionality that allows seamless control of devices through the SmartThings app. SmartThings hubs will receive over-the-air updates and the SmartThings Android app will be updated. This update will allow SmartThings users to control all their Matter-enabled devices from one app instead of multiple apps from different manufacturers.

As a pioneer in the smart home industry, Samsung contributed to the development of Matter from the beginning. And it was one of the first companies to receive an award Issue certification. Connecting to Samsung devices and third-party devices is easier than ever with Matter Controller. In May 2022, SmartThings announced the Partner Early Access Program. SmartThings’ open platform is already one of the largest integrated ecosystems, and Matter-certified products from brands such as Google Nest, Eve Systems, Nanoleaf, and Yale will soon join it.

Matter Controller support for SmartThings will be available on the second and third generation SmartThings Hub and Aeotec Smart Home Hub. All hubs continue to support Zigbee, Z-Wave and LAN devices, including WiFi and Ethernet, and will be updated over the network to enable support for Matter devices with WiFi, Ethernet and Thread protocol.
